The Nevada Diabetes Association provides immediate life-saving assistance.

Given the alarming increase in rates of diabetes, the NDA is operating beyond capacity. The NDA Emergency Medical Assistance Program finds itself in a heightened need of support given the increasing demands upon it for the last several years. Through this greatly relied upon legacy program, we provide immediate, lifesaving assistance to individuals with diabetes who have found themselves in a crisis situation and are unable to afford their life-sustaining medications and supplies. Every day, our programs and services are making a difference as we remain a constant, reliable resource for our community and individuals living with diabetes.

EMERGENCY MEDICAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

Our primary goal for the Emergency Medical Assistance Program is to save lives. Emergency situations can happen to anyone at any time. The Nevada Diabetes Association has designed this program to provide a means for individuals to have access to their life-sustaining medications regardless of their ability to pay. This program is an alternative to using the emergency room as a source for daily insulin administration, or rationing insulin dosages which could have devastating consequences. The Emergency Medical Assistance Program serves over 850 individuals annually. Based on the previous contacts made by individuals in Northern and Southern Nevada and the North Lake Tahoe/Truckee areas, the organization can provide services to over 50 individuals with access to insulin, other diabetes medications and supplies.

The NDA measures the outcomes of this program by the number of individuals who are directly served. Individuals also complete surveys to measure the effectiveness of the program and its impact. In addition, we routinely receive letters of support, endorsements, and accolades from members of the community.

Empowering the Nevada Diabetes Community with Support

With over 29 million individuals in the U.S. impacted by diabetes, the Nevada Diabetes Association stands as a beacon of support for the community it serves. Whether it be a parent, sibling, child, co-worker, friend, neighbor, or someone close to you, the prevalence of diabetes underscores the importance of awareness and proactive management.

For those navigating a recent diabetes diagnosis, it is crucial to recognize that adapting to this new reality is a journey that requires time and patience. From frequent blood testing and monitoring to lifestyle adjustments like diet and exercise, managing diabetes is a comprehensive process that demands dedication and perseverance.  The Nevada Diabetes Association encourages individuals to take small but impactful steps toward managing their condition, emphasizing that even minor lifestyle changes can yield significant positive outcomes in the long run. By providing essential resources and guidance, we strive to empower individuals in the Nevada community to effectively manage their diabetes and safeguard their long-term well-being.
